Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that is commonly used for treating conditions such as the common cold. Besides providing antioxidant activity, it also appears to improve immune function and increase the absorption of iron into the body. Side effects that may occur with high-dose vitamin C supplementation include heartburn or indigestion, vomiting, and insomnia.
