Variant Angina (Cont.)

Treating Variant Angina

Treatment for symptoms of variant angina includes angina medicine, such as nitroglycerin. Your healthcare provider may also prescribe a longer-acting nitrate or calcium channel blocker to help prevent an attack in the first place. Because smoking can increase the chances that an artery will spasm, a person who smokes should stop.

Statistics on Variant Angina

Variant angina is rare. It accounts for only about 2 out of every 100 cases of angina. People with variant angina are often younger than those with other forms of the condition.
