Trandolapril Uses

The prescription drug trandolapril is licensed to treat several conditions related to the heart and blood vessels. Among these trandolapril uses are controlling high blood pressure and improving survival and/or decreasing the risk of developing congestive heart failure symptoms in people who have had a heart attack. Trandolapril increases the survival rate for people who develop heart failure or left ventricular dysfunction following a heart attack by up to 16 percent if taken on a daily basis. Trandolapril is not approved for use in children and has no universally accepted off-label uses.

 

Trandolapril Uses: An Overview

Trandolapril (Mavik®) is a prescription medication that has been licensed to treat a number of conditions. These trandolapril uses include:
 

 

High Blood Pressure
A blood pressure reading consists of two numbers, for example 120/80. The top number is known as the systolic blood pressure and the bottom number is the diastolic blood pressure. High blood pressure is defined as an average blood pressure higher than 140/90 with multiple blood pressure readings.
 
Based on clinical studies, trandolapril has been shown to significantly lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The higher the dose of trandolapril, the greater the drop in blood pressure tended to be. By lowering blood pressure, trandolapril can also decrease the risks that occur with long-term high blood pressure (see Effects of High Blood Pressure). Trandolapril is not a cure for high blood pressure.
