Trandolapril Dosing

People with high blood pressure are recommended to take a starting trandolapril dose of 1 mg or 2 mg once daily. Your healthcare provider may choose to start you on a lower dose and monitor you closely if you have kidney disease or liver disease (including cirrhosis). The starting trandolapril dosage for people with congestive heart failure or left ventricular dysfunction following a heart attack is 1 mg once daily. It is important that you take your trandolapril at the same time every day to maintain even levels of the drug in your blood.

Trandolapril Dosing: An Introduction

The dose of trandolapril (Mavik®) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on a number of factors, including:

  • The medical condition you are being treated for
  • Other medical conditions you may have
  • Other medications you may be currently taking.

As always, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

Trandolapril Dosing for High Blood Pressure

The recommended starting dosage of trandolapril for most people with
high blood pressure (hypertension) is 1 mg or 2 mg once a day. The 2 mg dose is generally recommended for African Americans. Based on the blood pressure response and/or trandolapril side effects, the dosage may be increased or decreased. With each change in dosage, it may take several weeks to see the full effects of trandolapril. Most people require a final dose of trandolapril 2 mg to 4 mg once a day. It is possible that your healthcare provider may recommend that you take trandolapril twice a day.

If you have kidney disease or liver disease (including cirrhosis), your healthcare provider may choose to start with a lower dose of trandolapril and monitor you more closely.
