Before your stress test, you should not eat or smoke for at least 2 to 3 hours. You should come to the test site dressed for exercise. But, you may also change into your comfortable clothes and shoes when you arrive. Wearing a short sleeve shirt that opens in the front is advised, along with shorts or sweat pants.
Be prepared for a brief physical and for some questions about your past medical history, your medications and allergies.
It is a good idea to bring a list of your medications with you. During this time, it is also important to tell your doctor if you have had a previous heart attack, angina, aortic stenosis, abnormal heartbeats, heart failure or uncontrolled hypertension. This is important information for your doctor to have.
To get ready, patches will be applied to your chest for electrocardiogram or EKG. An EKG records the electrical activity of your heart. A blood pressure cuff will also be applied to your arm to regularly check your blood pressure.
