Rythmol SR Side Effects

People who take Rythmol SR generally tolerate the medication well. However, side effects are possible and can include dizziness, nausea, and fatigue. Reactions tend to be minor and usually do not require treatment. There are also cases where Rythmol SR can cause serious side effects, such as jaundice, infections, or unusual bleeding, which will require immediate medical attention.

An Introduction to Rythmol SR Side Effects

Just like any medicine, Rythmol SR® (propafenone SR) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the drug will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Rythmol SR. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)

Common Side Effects of Rythmol SR

Rythmol SR has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking Rythmol SR were documented and compared to the side effects that occurred in a similar group of people taking a placebo (a "sugar pill" that does not contain any active ingredients).
The prescribing information for most prescription medications contains the exact percentage of people who experienced problems. However, the prescribing information for Rythmol SR contains only general percentages. Therefore, it is difficult to know exactly how often certain side effects may occur.
In clinical studies, the most common Rythmol SR side effects, occurring in more than 5 percent of people, included:
  • Dizziness
  • A fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Chest pain
  • Breathing difficulty
  • Changes in taste, such as a metallic taste in the mouth
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Feeling anxious
  • Constipation
  • Upper respiratory tract infections, such as the common cold
  • Swelling in the body, such as in the arms, hands, legs, ankles, or feet
  • Flu-like symptoms.
