Ramipril Drug Interactions

Ramipril drug interactions can potentially occur with diuretics, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, potassium-sparing diuretics, lithium, and other drugs. Drug interactions with ramipril can change how your body metabolizes the drugs, cause your blood pressure to decrease too much, and contribute to kidney damage.

Ramipril Drug Interactions: An Introduction

More Detail About Ramipril Interactions

Diuretics
If you are taking ramipril with a diuretic, your
blood pressure may decrease too much. You can reduce the risk of this happening by either stopping the diuretic (under a healthcare provider's supervision) or increasing salt intake prior to starting the ramipril. Discuss these options more with your healthcare provider.

Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
If you have kidney disease or kidney failure, taking both NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen) and ramipril may add to the damage your kidneys are already suffering. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your progress closely.

Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
If you are taking both ramipril and a potassium-sparing diuretic, your body may metabolize the medicines differently than intended. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your progress closely. If you have congestive heart failure, you should not be taking both a potassium-sparing diuretic and ramipril.
