Abnormal Scar Formation Following Open Heart Surgery

You will have a scar following
open heart surgery. In most cases, these scars will heal without any problems. However, it is possible that you will develop abnormal scars, especially if you have a history of keloids (excessive, thick scarring). Consultation with a dermatologist and discussion with your physician about your specific case are recommended if you are concerned about these issues.

The appearance of the scar will not predict the results of your operation. Even patients with enlarged scars can have excellent surgical results.
