Theoretically, it is possible that combining omega-3-acid ethyl esters with anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications may increase the risk of bleeding, including dangerous internal bleeding. If you take such medications together, it is important to watch for any signs of bleeding, such as:
- Easy bruising or bleeding (or bleeding that is difficult to stop)
- Black, tarry stools, bright-red blood in the stool, or vomiting of blood (signs of gastrointestinal bleeding)
- Signs of a hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding in the brain), such as vision or speech changes, weakness or numbness in an arm or leg, or a severe headache.
It is possible that not all omega-3-acid ethyl esters drug interactions were discussed in this article. Therefore, you should talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about any specific drug interactions with omega-3-acid ethyl esters that may apply to you.
