Nifedical XL Interactions Explained
The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when
Nifedical XL is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Certain Antibiotics and Antifungals
Taking Nifedical XL with certain antibiotics or antifungals can increase the level of Nifedical XL in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider should monitor your
blood pressure (and may need to lower your
Nifedical XL dosage) while you are taking certain antibiotics or antifungals.
Beta Blockers
Combining Nifedical XL with a beta blocker may increase your risk of side effects, especially low blood pressure (hypotension) and
congestive heart failure (CHF). Your healthcare provider should monitor you closely if you are taking a beta blocker with Nifedical XL.
Cimetidine (Tagamet)
Cimetidine may increase the level of Nifedical XL in your blood, increasing your risk of
Nifedical XL side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your Nifedical XL dose or may suggest an alternative to cimetidine.
Digoxin (Digitek, Lanoxin)
Nifedical XL may increase the level of digoxin in your blood. Since changes in digoxin levels can be dangerous, your healthcare provider should monitor the level of digoxin in your blood and adjust your digoxin dosage as necessary.
Grapefruit Juice
Grapefruit juice can increase the level of Nifedical XL in your blood, even if you do not take Nifedical XL and drink grapefruit juice at the same time of the day. It is best to avoid grapefruit juice altogether while you are taking Nifedical XL. However, if your healthcare provider decides it is okay for you to drink grapefruit juice, you should do so consistently and in moderation.
