Time of Day to Take Metoprolol
Many people may wonder what time of day to take metoprolol (Lopressor® and Toprol-XL®). The medication comes in tablet form (immediate-release and extended-release forms) and is typically taken once or twice daily. It does not matter what time of day metoprolol is taken, but you should make sure to take it at the same times each day to maintain an even level of the medication in your blood. Also, the medication should be taken with or immediately following a meal.
For metoprolol to work properly, you have to take it as prescribed. Metoprolol will not work if you take in a way other than how your healthcare provider recommends. If you do not take your metoprolol as scheduled, take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with normal dosing. Do not take a double dose of the medication.
