Metoprolol Side Effects to Report

There are a number of side effects with metoprolol that you should report immediately to your healthcare provider. These side effects include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Unexplained skin rash
  • Itching
  • Wheezing
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • Unexplained swelling or sudden weight gain (see Metoprolol and Weight Gain)
  • Chest pain
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting spells
  • Cold, tingling, or numbness in the hands or feet
  • Confusion
  • Irregular heartbeat.
     

Rare Side Effects With Metoprolol

There are other possible metoprolol side effects that can occur. These rare side effects occur in less than 1 percent of people. Given how rarely they occur, however, it can be difficult to tell whether these side effects are actually caused by the medication or something else.
