Metoprolol and Hair Loss

Hair loss appears to be a rare complaint in people taking metoprolol (Lopressor®, Toprol XL®). In clinical studies prior to the approval of metoprolol, hair loss was reported rarely (in less than 1 percent of people). In many cases, this side effect appears to be reversible (meaning that it goes away once the medication is stopped).

If you experience hair loss while taking metoprolol, talk with your healthcare provider. Depending on how severe the hair loss is, there are things that he or she may recommend. It is possible that if the side effect becomes bothersome, your doctor may recommend another medicine for your condition.
