Drug Interactions With Metoprolol

Not all medicines respond well when taken together, and there is always the possibility of developing negative drug interactions. With metoprolol, these interactions can cause your body to metabolize the medicines differently than intended and result in problems like excessive drug levels in your system, extremely low blood pressure, slow heart rate, or low blood sugar levels, among other things.

Metoprolol Interactions: An Overview

 Metoprolol (Lopressor®, Toprol-XL®) can interact with a number of different medications. Some of the medicines that can lead to drug interactions with metoprolol include:
 
 
 
 
 
  • Certain arrhythmia medications, such as:
     
    • Amiodarone (Cordarone®)
    • Disopyramide (Norpace®, Norpace CR®)
    • Lidocaine (Xylocaine®)
    • Propafenone (Rythmol®)
    • Quinidine
