Heart Disease Home > Cartia XT Capsules

The prescription drug Cartia XT (Cardizem CD®) is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and certain types of chest pain (angina). This product belongs to a class of drugs known as calcium channel blockers, and it works by relaxing the blood vessels. This makes it easier for the heart to pump blood, which helps lower blood pressure. Cartia XT comes in capsule form and is taken by mouth once a day.
