Heart Disease Home > Flaxseed Oil Drug Interactions

If you take certain medicines while you are using flaxseed oil, drug interactions could occur. Medications that may interact with flaxseed oil include aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, warfarin, clopidogrel, and heparin. Drug interactions with flaxseed oil can increase your risk of bleeding, so it is important to talk to your healthcare provider before combining any drugs with flaxseed oil.

An Introduction to Flaxseed Oil Drug Interactions

Even though it is a "natural" product, flaxseed oil can theoretically interact with a few different medicines. Some of the medicines that may lead to flaxseed oil interactions include medications that "thin" the blood (such as anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs), such as:
    • Alteplase (Activase®)
    • Reteplase (Retavase®)
    • Streptokinase (Streptase®)
    • Tenecteplase (TNKase®)
