Heart Disease Home > What Can You Expect Without Beating Heart Bypass Surgery?

It's your choice whether or not to have beating heart bypass surgery (also known as off-pump bypass surgery). However, it's important for you to understand what might happen if you don't have the surgery or if you wait to have it.

Many people who have blocked coronary arteries and don't have bypass surgery develop more serious health problems later on. Heart attacks and strokes are common in these people, and they are often fatal. Also, if you wait too long to have the surgery, you might be too sick to have it safely at a later time.

Therefore, if you choose to not have the surgery, please discuss your decision with your healthcare provider. This will help both of you as you make these important decisions about your health.
