Nitroglycerin Spray Information

Available by prescription only, nitroglycerin spray (Nitrolingual®, NitroMist®) is a medication used to treat attacks of angina (chest pain) in adults. It can also help prevent angina attacks when used right before an activity that is expected to cause chest pain.

By relaxing the veins and arteries of the body, nitroglycerin spray helps to improve blood flow to the heart. You can spray this medicine on or under the tongue. It can be used up to three times in 15 minutes. If your chest pain continues after the third dose, seek immediate medical attention, as you may be having a heart attack.

To ensure your safety with nitroglycerin spray, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on any other medications you are taking, including vitamins and supplements, as well as any allergies you may have, including to medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives. Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
