This medicine is a type of calcium channel blocker. It works by relaxing the blood vessels, which improves blood flow and makes it easier for the heart to pump blood. Diltiazem comes in the form of a capsule or tablet, and is taken one to four times daily, depending on the particular product being used. As with any medication, side effects are possible, such as dizziness, swelling, and headaches.
