Women and Heart Attacks (Cont.)

Summary of Women and Heart Attacks

Only 55 percent of women are aware that heart disease -- including heart attacks -- is the leading cause of death among women. And unfortunately, women are less likely to recognize the symptoms of a heart attack. Any woman experiencing possible symptoms of a heart attack should call her healthcare provider immediately or call 911. During a heart attack, every minute counts -- even if the symptoms seem to disappear!

Getting serious about your heart health can decrease the chance of having a heart attack in the first place. Regardless of your age, background, or health status, you can lower your risk of having a heart attack -- it doesn't have to be complicated. Protecting your heart can be as simple as taking a brisk walk, making a good vegetable soup, or getting the support you need to maintain a healthy weight.
