Women are less likely to experience the classic heart attack symptoms. In fact, up to 20 percent of women will who have a heart attack will have mild discomfort or no pain at all. Women are more likely to have more vague symptoms of a heart attack such as:
 
  • Unusual tiredness
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Problems breathing
  • Anxiety (feeling uneasy or worried).
     

Summary of Symptoms of Heart Disease in Women

Only 55 percent of women are aware that heart disease, including heart attacks, is the leading cause of death among women. And unfortunately, women are less likely than men to recognize the symptoms of a heart attack. Any woman experiencing possible symptoms of a heart attack should call 911 immediately.
 
During a heart attack, every minute counts -- even if the symptoms seem to disappear! Know that not every woman gets all of these warning signs. And sometimes these signs can go away and return. Treatments are most effective if given within one hour of when the heart attack begins. If you have these symptoms, call 911 right away!
