Diltiazem Side Effects

Diltiazem Side Effects to Report

Some side effects with diltiazem can indicate a serious problem and should be reported to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
 
  • Chest pain
  • An irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
  • Signs of low blood pressure, such as dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
  • Depression (see Diltiazem and Depression)
  • High blood sugar (hyperglycemia)
  • Hallucinations
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, including:
 
    • An unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing or swallowing.
 

Rare Diltiazem Side Effects

Rare side effects occur in less than 2 percent of people taking diltiazem. Because these side effects are so uncommon, it is difficult to tell whether they are caused by the medication or something else.
