Diltiazem Side Effects to Report

Some side effects with diltiazem can indicate a serious problem and should be reported to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:

Chest pain
An irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
Signs of low blood pressure, such as dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
Depression (see Diltiazem and Depression)
High blood sugar (hyperglycemia)
Hallucinations
Signs of an allergic reaction, including:

An unexplained rash
Hives
Itching
Unexplained swelling
Wheezing

Difficulty breathing or swallowing.

Rare Diltiazem Side Effects

Rare side effects occur in less than 2 percent of people taking diltiazem. Because these side effects are so uncommon, it is difficult to tell whether they are caused by the medication or something else.

Some of these rare side effects of diltiazem include but are not limited to:

Flushing (redness of the skin, especially the face)
Abnormal dreams
Memory loss (amnesia)
Drowsiness
Dry mouth (see Diltiazem and Dry Mouth)
Shakiness (tremors)
Loss of appetite
Constipation or diarrhea
Taste changes
Nosebleeds
Vomiting
Weight gain (see Diltiazem Weight Gain)
Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
Impotence, also known as erectile dysfunction, or ED (see Diltiazem and Impotence).
