Coumadin and Pregnancy

Final Thoughts

If you take Coumadin and are thinking about becoming pregnant, let your healthcare provider know. The two of you need to develop a clear plan for stopping Coumadin and replacing it with a different anticoagulant, if necessary.

If you take Coumadin and think you may be pregnant, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

As a final note, you may be surprised to learn that Coumadin is generally considered compatible with breastfeeding (see Coumadin and Breastfeeding). It is important to have a clear plan formed about what anticoagulant medications you will take after delivering the baby and while breastfeeding, if you choose to do so.
