Coumadin® (warfarin sodium) is a medication that is available by prescription to treat blood clots caused by various conditions. It can also be used to prevent blood clots from forming. Your healthcare provider will need to monitor you closely on a regular basis during treatment to make sure you are responding well to the drug, as life-threatening side effects could occur. Before your healthcare provider prescribes Coumadin, make sure he or she is aware if you have diabetes, vasculitis, or kidney disease.
