Coreg CR Dosage

The recommended dosage of Coreg CR for the treatment of high blood pressure is 20 mg once daily. The usual starting dosage for most people with congestive heart failure is 10 mg once daily. Following a heart attack, it is recommended that you take 20 mg of the medication once daily. It is best to take your dose at the same time each day.

Dosage of Coreg CR: An Introduction

The dose of Coreg CR® (carvedilol CR) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:

  • How you respond to Coreg CR
  • Other medications you are taking
  • Other medical conditions you may have.

As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

High Blood Pressure

The recommended starting Coreg CR dosage for people with high blood pressure (hypertension) is 20 mg once daily. After a couple of weeks, based on the blood pressure response and/or Coreg CR side effects, the dosage may be increased or decreased. Your healthcare provider may also add a diuretic (a "water pill") or another blood pressure medication if your blood pressure is not sufficiently controlled by Coreg CR alone.

Congestive Heart Failure

The recommended starting dosage of Coreg CR for most people with congestive heart failure is 10 mg once daily. Based on the response and/or side effects, the Coreg CR dosage may be increased or decreased until the optimal dose is determined. People respond to Coreg CR in different ways.

Following a Heart Attack

The recommended starting dose following a
heart attack is 20 mg once daily. Based on the response and/or side effects, the Coreg CR dosage may be increased or decreased until the optimal dose is determined. People respond to medications, including Coreg CR, in different ways.
