Drug Interactions With Clopidogrel

Clopidogrel Interactions Explained

Warfarin
If you are taking other blood thinners (such as warfarin) while taking clopidogrel, your body may metabolize them differently than intended. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your INR and prothrombin time more frequently and adjust accordingly. INR and prothrombin time are tests used to measure how well your blood is clotting.

Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
Using these pain relievers with clopidogrel can increase the risk for bleeding. Acetaminophen (Tylenol®) products can be safely used.

Phenytoin
Taking clopidogrel and phenytoin together can increase the amount of phenytoin in your blood, resulting in possible side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs.

Tamoxifen
Taking clopidogrel and tamoxifen together can increase the amount of tamoxifen in your blood, resulting in possible side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs.

Torsemide
Taking clopidogrel and torsemide together can increase the amount of torsemide in your blood, resulting in possible side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs.

Fluvastatin
Taking clopidogrel and fluvastatin together can increase the amount of fluvastatin in your blood, resulting in possible side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs.

Herbal and Nutritional Supplements
Several herbal and nutritional supplements can also interact with clopidogrel and may increase the risk of bleeding. If you are taking any natural or herbal supplements, make sure to discuss it with your healthcare provider before starting clopidogrel therapy.

When taking clopidogrel with herbal or nutritional supplements, your body may metabolize the medicines differently than intended, although it is not believed to be significant. You may wish to discuss this with your healthcare provider prior to starting clopidogrel. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your progress more closely.
