Cartia XT (Cardizem CD®) is used for the treatment of high blood pressure and certain types of chest pain. It is an extended-release medication that is used to lower blood pressure and make it easier for the heart to pump blood. The prescription medicine is available in five different strengths and comes in the form of a capsule.
 
Most people tolerate this drug well, but it is not for everyone. Before taking it, let your healthcare provider know if you have low blood pressure, heart disease, or liver disease. Potential side effects of Cartia XT include water retention, headache, and weakness.
