Cardizem Drug Interactions
Digoxin (Digitek, Lanoxin)
Cardizem may increase the level of digoxin in your blood (although studies have had conflicting results). Since changes in digoxin levels can be dangerous, your healthcare provider should monitor the level of digoxin in your blood and adjust your dosage as necessary. Your healthcare provider should also monitor your heart rate, since Cardizem and digoxin can both lower it.
Cardizem can increase the level of quinidine in your blood, possibly increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your quinidine dosage as a result.
Rifampin can greatly decrease the level of Cardizem in your blood, perhaps making it much less effective. In general, these medications should not be combined.
Cardizem can increase the level of certain statin medications in the blood, perhaps increasing the risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your statin dosage or may recommend that you switch to a different statin that does not interact with Cardizem.
It is possible that not all Cardizem drug interactions were discussed in this article. Therefore, you should talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about the specific drug interactions that may apply to you.
