Brilinta Uses

How Does This Medication Work?

This medication is an antiplatelet drug. It helps to prevent blood platelets from sticking together (an important step in clot formation). Brilinta is similar to an older antiplatelet medication known as Plavix® (clopidogrel).

Brilinta is intended to be taken with aspirin, which works with Brilinta to prevent platelets from sticking together. This medication and aspirin are similar but work on different types of receptors on the platelets.

Brilinta Uses in Children

Brilinta has not been approved for use in individuals under the age of 18, as it has not been adequately studied in this age group.

Off-Label Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend this product for something other than the conditions discussed in this article (this would be known as an "off-label" use). At this time, using Brilinta after strokes or to treat peripheral artery disease (PAD) would be considered off-label uses of the drug.
