If you have kidney disease, you are at an increased risk for kidney failure when you have a procedure that requires the use of intravenous contrast dye, such as an atherectomy. If you develop kidney failure, you may need medical treatment to filter your blood. This is commonly called dialysis. In most cases, intravenous contrast dye-induced kidney failure is not permanent.
