Angina Pain (Cont.)

Variant Angina Pain
Variant angina (also known as Prinzmetal's angina) is a rare type of angina. Variant angina pain or discomfort usually occurs at rest and during the night or early morning hours. This pain tends to be severe, but is relieved by angina medicine.

Treating Angina Pain

Treatment for angina pain involves medicine and lifestyle changes. When these things are not enough to control angina, special procedures may be needed. Angioplasty and coronary artery bypass surgery are two common procedures used to treat angina pain.

If you have angina, it is important to know:

  • The pattern of your angina pain
  • About your medicine
  • How to control your angina
  • The limits on your physical activity.

You should also know how and when to seek medical help.
