Time of Day to Take Amlodipine

Amlodipine besylate (Norvasc®) is a medicine often prescribed for the treatment of high blood pressure and heart disease, including coronary artery disease in people who do not have heart failure and angina (chest pain).

This medication comes in tablet form and is available in three strengths: 2.5 mg, 5 mg, and 10 mg. The recommended starting dose for most adults with high blood pressure (hypertension) or heart disease is amlodipine 5 mg once daily. The usual starting dose for children as young as six years old with high blood pressure is 2.5 to 5 mg once daily.

You can take your dose with food or on an empty stomach. Although there is no recommended time of day to take amlodipine, you should take the medication at the same time each day. This helps to maintain an even level in your blood.
