People who experience certain conditions involving the heart or blood vessels may benefit from amlodipine besylate (Norvasc®). This prescription medication is classified as a calcium channel blocker. It works to relax the blood vessels and improve blood flow by slowing down the rate at which calcium moves into the heart and blood vessel walls. As a result, it can help treat conditions such as high blood pressure, certain types of angina, and coronary heart failure. Some of the common side effects seen with amlodipine include nausea, fatigue, and dizziness.
