Amlodipine Tablets

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved amlodipine besylate (Norvasc®) to treat certain conditions related to the cardiovascular system. Specifically, it is approved to control high blood pressure and treat heart disease. Amlodipine comes in tablet form and is available by prescription only.
Amlodipine tablets are taken by mouth, typically once a day. The medicine can be taken either with food or on an empty stomach. It does not matter what time of day you take your dose, as long as you take it at the same time each day to maintain an even level in your blood.
As a calcium channel blocker, amlodipine helps to slow down the rate at which calcium moves into your heart and into the blood vessel walls. This, in turn, helps to relax the vessels, which allows better blood flow and causes lower blood pressure. It also makes it easier for the heart to pump blood.
