Drug Interactions With Amiodarone Premixed Injection

CYP 3A4 Inhibitor Medications
The liver breaks down amiodarone using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes, and medications known as CYP 3A4 inhibitors can decrease the activity of these enzymes. Thus, combining amiodarone premixed injection with one of these drugs may increase the level of amiodarone in your body, increasing your risk for side effects. Your healthcare provider will need to closely monitor you for side effects if you use these medications together. He or she may also want to measure the level of amiodarone in your blood, using a simple blood test.

Dextromethorphan
Amiodarone premixed injection may increase the amount of dextromethorphan in your body, increasing your risk for side effects. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction before using these medicines together.

Digoxin
Amiodarone premixed injection increases digoxin blood levels, increasing the risk for digoxin toxicity. Your healthcare provider will need to lower your digoxin dose if you use these medications together, and will closely monitor your digoxin blood levels.

Diltiazem
Amiodarone premixed injection should be used with caution in people taking diltiazem, due to the risk of a dangerously low heart rate. Your healthcare provider will need to closely monitor you if you use these medicines together.

Fentanyl
Because amiodarone premixed injection can increase fentanyl blood levels, using these medicines together can increase your risk for serious fentanyl side effects. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential reaction before using fentanyl with amiodarone premixed injection.

Fluoroquinolones
Your healthcare provider will need to closely monitor you if you take a fluoroquinolone with amiodarone premixed injection, as this combination may increase the risk for potentially serious heart rhythm problems.
